Laylat-ul-Qadr: The Night of Revelation (of The Divine Beauty)

“Laylat-ul-Qadr” when literally translated, it stands for “Night of Destiny” or “Night of Decree”. The Holy Quran describes many merits of Laylatul Qadr, one of the instances being as below.

The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months). [97:3] Qur’an

Hazrath Imam Ahmad Ibn Umar (R) has stated that “Qadr” is like a ray of light which will enlighten the deepest corners of our hearts and resonate there. Laylat-ul-Qadr is the night of the radiant light, the divine and resplendent light of Prophet (PBUH) (“Nur-e-Muhammad”).

According to Sheikhul Akbar Sayyid Muhyudin Ibn Arabi (R), “Laylat-ul-Qadr” can be described as the physical structure of Prophet Muhammed (SAW) in the temporary state of the heart in which his “rank/position” was concealed for the witnessing of the Essence. The descent of Quran cannot occur until this position/state is met. Qadr is one of the highest ranks of Prophet (SAW).

Sayyid Ibn Arabi says “Qadr” is glory and sanctity of Prophet (SAW) and a single moment of enlightenment from this “noor” in one’s heart is better than a thousand months of “Ibadath”.

When one’s trying to explain the Quranic verses on “Laylat-ul-Qadr”, s/he may uncover that the “Laylat-ul-Qadr” for an Arif (one who gained gnosis of Allah) is glorious than thousand nights of an Abid (one who worships Allah). It is a night where Allah reveals his majestic beauty upon his most obedient slaves who attained the rank of witnessing (شهادة ). One can be witness to this divine beauty in accordance with the level and rank they have spiritually attained. Angels and souls also will descend on this night rewarding such supreme slaves who are pure of their faith and knowledge (معرفة).

When the (spiritual) darkness of this night is glistened by this luminous Noor, an appeasing serenity and sense of security arises in the soul which lives on until the end of this physical life and the glorious day of the spiritual world dawns, when everything will be on a different plane and the nights and days of this world will seem less than a dream. This is what the Ayah,

Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn. [97:5]

To sum up, a single moment of one who was enlightened by this light (Noor-e-Muhammad) in heart has benefitted more than thousand months worshipping by someone who has just merely attained it. A moment of feeding this light into heart converts one into eternal spiritual-glory and majesty.

Every one of us should seek the path towards this light by devoting ourselves to our Creator, Allah (SWT) on this blessed “Laylat-ul-Qadr” and pray to be part of this “Noor” via a holy chain of Mashaikh who can take us to that paramount glory.

May Allah, the Almighty bless us and guide us in the true path. Ameen.
